I wonder what we could possibly get? I hope we have an option to select what games to download first and then have it go in order like on PS3. That's all I need, I can't think of anything else.

bloop2829d ago

I always wished they would make day one patches available before games release. I know it'll never happen as they don't want people that got their mitts on them before street date to have the patch, but it really annoys me getting a new game, waiting for it to install, booting the game and THEN the download starts and you end up quitting back to dash to wait for download/install. I know it's not that big of an issue but annoys me sometimes. Folders would be welcomed too, and being able to permanently delete from your library (for demos etc. ).

jukins2828d ago

Yes blooplease I agree on that so much. Especially since I gamefly most of my games how awesome would it be to be able to preload patches

generic-user-name2828d ago

@bloop

I'd definitely appreciate that feature, pre-loading day 1 patches would be very nice.

Not only the ability to download day 1 patches. But the ability to download ALL game updates that are out for a game, even if said game is not owned by the consumer. This is something I've wanted for awhile. I don't always buy new releases on day 1, but I know eventually I will buy a particular game.

I'm hoping it fixes the sound file issue that Bethesda is having with Fallout 4 mods.

Utalkin2me2828d ago

What does that have to do with Sony?

Christopher2828d ago

@Utalkin2me: A lot, actually, if it's a compatibility issue.

Also, I do hope this update does a lot to fix the overall issues Bethesda and modders have been having on the PS4 with mods. It's obviously not set up well to handle such a system.

Ozmoses2828d ago (Edited 2828d ago )

@bloop put the disc in then click "start" on your controller to bring up the menu of choices and click "check for update"

this allows you to download everything before you even load up the game and look at the start menu

that's how I install all my brand new games.. because day 1 patches are so common..

don't even start up the game until the stuff is installed.

bloop2828d ago

Yes, there is that option but I never think of it, ha!! But when we're getting games that have day one patches that can be multiple GB it would be great even if they put them up for download for everybody 24hrs before instead of actually having to have the disc in the system to activate it. Especially when big games release and the servers are getting hammered and it takes twice as long to download as it normally would.

Orbilator2828d ago

Wow people still buy physical copies ? Lol, I'm just sating as most new releases download the patch as it downloads the main game off the psn

bloop2828d ago

@Orbilator: I only buy digital if I know it's a game I'll want to hold onto forever or if it comes up as a really good deal on PSN. If it's something I know I'll probably just go through once or twice and never touch again I'll buy physical so I can trade it in. Just makes more sense.

Kingdomcome2472828d ago

I would like folders, the ability to rearrange the order of your icons on the home screen, a wraparound function on the home screen where you can just infinitely scroll as opposed to having to scroll back to the left, and that's all that I can think of. It already has everything that I need so the rest of that minor stuff would just be a bonus.

update to the blu-ray player for 4k bluerays. benifit of having a custom hdmi chip in the system :)

Becuzisaid2829d ago (Edited 2829d ago )

Can you imagine the megaton that would be? Release FW4.0 with 4K Blu-ray compatibility on the day the One S releases. Lol 42 million gamers suddenly have a UHD player or of nowhere. Not gonna happen, but just imagine.

Also, let's say theoretically this is possible. How does this get around the HDCP 2.0 issue with UHD?

If they do an official price drop to $299 then they can make the system capable of doing everything that the X1S can do without the need to upgrade hardware. It's just one chip in both systems which is thought to be preventing the new features from being fully utilized, otherwise, both systems are already capable beyond that...or at least require an update for the increased HDMI transfer speed. Slim version could just be a regular slim revision with nothing special about it beyond the form factor....and realistically, would really make MS look bad for not being able to offer the same thing.

Plus Sony tends to have more mind share in being a media player to those who may be looking for such things, so it could put a serious dent in MS own UHD/HDR plans.

From what I understand though, the chips aren't suitable for the HDCP2.2 standard, which is the copy protection used for UHD/HDR discs, so I'm not sure they'd be able to just update it through firmware. I've seen various speculation on it which seems to conflict, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Maybe there's a way around it through some other means, but I'd imagine would be able to offer the same thing even unless they used a HDMI controller which can't be adapted through a simple firmware update.

Funnily enough, HDR support in games doesn't even require an update to the HDMI controller chip to become HDCP2.2 compliant, just a update to increase the transfer speed of the HDMI which should be possible unless they really cheaped out on the chip itself, since the games aren't likely to use the HDCP2.2 protocol to encrypt it's output for copy protection. I've been wondering if MS would update the OGX1 to support HDR as well.

All conjecture though. So many conflicting theories on the subject that I don't even know what to believe in terms of the silicon offered, and most of this I found out today despite speaking rather authoritatively about it for a while now.:(

Not going to happen. This is akin to MisterXMedia saying there were multiple stacks of CPUs and the like in the old days.
