We Just Saw Nintendo's NES Classic In Person And It Is Glorious

The Verge writes: "There's a lot of things at San Diego Comic-Con that might make you want to trek across convention centers, hotels, and clamber over legions of fans — but at the top of the list is Nintendo's NES Classic."

Many pics inside the link. It's lovingly detailed. Honey I Shrunk The NES....lol

It is very cool. I really do wish they had made the cart door open to a CF or SD slot though. but then they wouldnt be able to control the games played on it.

Oh well... somebody will figure it out and maybe we will see some interesting mods with this nifty gizmo.

Im getting two one for collecting purposes and the other to play on ;)

N82828d ago

Thinking of getting 3 for that same reason. One is a gift for my mother in law who is a gamer.

X-Alchemist2828d ago

That should have been the name of the article. Missed opportunity.

CrazedFiend2827d ago

Funny! The the controller is bigger than the system is!

Going to get this and set this up next to my consoles in my man cave.

Then I will shed a tear of joy as I'm transported back to my early childhood of when I really did have a NES set up.

I will play Mega Man 2, die, then instantly go back to playing Overwatch.

Moonman2828d ago (Edited 2828d ago )

I was an NES kid too! And guess what? I never really played Mega Man 2 (partly because of my friend never handing over the controller..lol)! One of the reasons I'm buying this is because I know it's a pure classic all-time favorite and I hope the gaming gods forgive me after I beat it. He was always playing Mega Man 2 and I couldn't put down Super Mario Bros. 3. Good times!!!! I do remember Mega Man 2's soundtrack being masterful.

gangsta_red2828d ago

IMO, Mega Man 2 and 3 are the best in the series. I remember seeing the graphics for Mega Man 2 and was completely blown away with how good it looked.

The first 3 SMB games are still legitimately fun for me. And the original Mario Bros is one of the all time most addictive 2 player games.

Anyone else want it more right after seeing the mini alongside it's big brother?

Can't believe how good it looks.

Movefasta19932828d ago (Edited 2828d ago )

If sony does this with the ps1,with some classic rpgs ike vagrant story,ff9,crash,spyro ect id be all over it.

Loktai2828d ago

I mean.. have you ever seen the "Psone"? You can already put that in your pocket if you're not wearing skinny jeans... its hardly big enough to fit the CD. Mind you, you'll be swapping disks to play but isn't that part of the nostalgia too?

Movefasta19932828d ago (Edited 2828d ago )

I prefer this way of doing it, 30games pre installed, plug and play , the only way of getting a ps1 now is second hand or pay the full price for a new one and these old classic games cost a lot. And scratch easy

TWB2828d ago

I dont think that the size is the main selling point. By that logic nobody who has a PS1, 2 or 3 should buy a miniature PS1 because they can just buy the games and play them. Besides, didnt NES also get a revision which was much smaller than the original ? Top loader.

What people are excited about the mini NES, is the HDMI output which gives you a much cleaner image quality than coaxial/RCA on the original NES/PS1, and the fact that the machine comes preloaded with classic games, many of which would rival the cost of the machine itself when bought physically.

I have seen each of the Crash and Spyro games too costing anything betweem 30-60+€, so simply buying a PSOne and then the games separately, its going to cost a hefty amount.

Ingram2827d ago

hey, they could release an even slimmer ps2 with hdmi output\upscaler. That's ps1 + ps2 on basically any monitor. modular optical drive and or ssd would be a plus too. I would pay up to 160 for a slimmer ps2 with an ssd + hdmi

TXIDarkAvenger2828d ago

I hope they will do more of these. So cool.

ZeekQuattro2828d ago

If this is a hit and I believe it will be Nintendo will most likely do mini varients of some of its other consoles.

These seems like one of the best options for use with a PS5, high quality sound and design. However, you will likely need a dongle for use with many of your bluetooth devices such as an iPhone as it requires a LE signal.

Abnor_Mal8h ago

The only purpose I could see me buying them is that they would be more comfortable to wear with PSVR2 compared to their Pulse/Pulse Elite over the head/over the ear cup headphones.

Babadook76h ago

Thats why I want them. Lower weight is a big plus for VR.

The use of “stellar” in the title made my dyslexic brain think there was a stellar blade exclusive limited edition or something.

Their newer giga cart tech should make for even bigger games coming to the platform. I'm hoping for a Resident Evil collection with the first 3 games.
