This makes sense actually.. Sony probably want's a 4K Blu-Ray/streaming system out as soon as possible. They do sell 4K TV's after all.

Not sure what to think of this. I find it stupid releasing 2 new consoles. But I suppose if they stop production of the older model. Then bring out the slim at a cheaper price I suppose that is ok I guess.

I thought Sony were the market leaders ! How is it they are simply reactionary to everything MS. Seems as if both consoles will always be similar which is why now I bet the Neo and Scorpio will be fairly similar. It also makes no sense for MS to go 1st at E3 when they are not the market leader!

See that's the thing about leaks they certainly do put a downer on things prematurely.

That said, both MS and Sony have done slimmer revisions for their consoles. The confusing thing to the industry is the high end versions in the same family.

I can see this being what the neo was going to be aka those leaked specs, and then we will get the new and improved neo with power to match or beat the scorpio. This could be why the sony pr laughed off the difference in power. Also that could just be a pr stunt.

I would like to get the slim but ill stick with the original.. My 3 year old car got totaled, i have a trip to vegas planned, as well as other expenses i need to tend to.. Maybe ill get the slim later on when this one dies out or theres a good deal on it.. The neo however is definitely in those expenses lol.. Im getting that for sure along with the VR..

Seems like they are scrambling right now. So there second console everyone is talking about is a slim now. So many save me reports. Like I said all Microsoft did was raise the price on Sony. If true, seems delightfully pointless. Sony should just find a way to make Neo slimmer. Too many configurations. This would only work if they discontinue PS4 "fat" (if you could ever really call it that with a straight face...) and launch Neo as the normal size console.

Most people will own the cheaper original consoles. PS4 will always have the power and sales advantage there. It'll drive down the regular console price. I'm not that enamored with the Neo or Scorpio because it'll just act as a 4k device that plays games at high-resolution. Games and VR will perform better but I'm not sure I will upgrade yet. PS4 is still vastly superior to Xbox One and is barely half done with this generation. Then again it depends on price too. If Neo is affordable i might get that.

So to all who though no Neo this year SONY Annalist confirms it will come @ Tokyo game show along with a slim. Wall Street Journal reporting this..

PS4 is already small enaugh instead of making the console smaller they rather should make the console quieter and cooler, quiet and cool like the original Xbox One is. The PS4 really can get loud and hot sometimes a quieter and cooler would make the already existing PS4 even better in my opinion.

Eh, I had a hunch this was happening since both MS and Sony work with AMD on their consoles anyway. I don't think both brands will have mid-gen consoles if both companies went with/ engineered their own CPU & GPU like last gen.

Companies don't make slim versions for gamers, they make them to save money and increase profits. Slim versions come along when the chips have shrunk or been combined or the design of the unit gets refined.

The 'slim' will probably be only slightly smaller, with a minor design change, added UHD player and more power efficiency - which is more than enough as the size and design are on point anyway.

...ok this is getting a little ridiculous...ive been saying for years id be ok with short console cycles but i feel like all 3 companys have been doing way too much...nintendo has released 4 different versions of 3ds in 5 years...sony has ps4, a slim, and neo....microsoft has xb1, xb1 slim and scorpio...its overkill...my thoughts were 1 console for 4-5 years not 3 consoles in 4-5 years

Could be passing the 'Neo' off as the 'Slim PS4' and then back to the drawing board for a Scorpio-beater.
