They proclaimed that its absence of external volume/home buttons, inconsistent touch screen recognition, and lack of horsepower would surely spell its doom. Add to this Amazon’s audacity of trying to capture the iPad demographic at a pricepoint $300 lower, and perhaps all the doom and gloom was justified.

There was one minor oversight in their argument: The primary purpose of most tablets is to consume content, and the Kindle Fire is streamlined for exactly that.
