VRFocus - 360 video is becoming an increasingly important part of the virtual reality (VR) landscape. Using multi-sensor camera rigs, users are able to shoot video that can be stitched together and then viewed within a head-mounted display (HMD) to give viewers a feeling of visiting new locations in real life. Many of the videos that viewers will have seen in the past will have been shot using multiple GoPro cameras that have been attached to a rig. This week sees GoPro itself become more directly connected with VR as it has announced an acquisition of 360 video player company, Kolor.
GoPro Inc. is planning to release the next in their Hero lineup later this year. The GoPro Hero 5 will be released in October 2015. Hero 5’s predecessor Hero 4 was a huge success and this pushed the company to making another one in the lineup with improved specs and technology.
