What Do the iPhone 4S Sales Figures Tell Us About Consumers?

Louis Bedigian: At four million iPhones sold, the 4S has become Apple’s fastest-selling device.

Should we be surprised? Maybe. First Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) bragged that the iPhone 4S had been pre-sold to more than one million consumers. Now, in the weekend following its release, the iPhone 4S has moved four million units across the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Japan and Australia.

The story is too old to be commented.

It only tells us that early adopters have faith in Apple, and that the iPhone has a loyal following. It doesn't tell us that the iPhone 4S will be more popular than the iPhone 4 was, or the opposite, either.

It certainly doesn't tell us that Siri adverts are effective. It hints at it, maybe, but that's it. That assumption discounts the fact that the iPhone has become an established brand, and that early adopters are increasing as the brand becomes more popular.
