Engadget - AMD fans have endured a long wait for this, while being reduced to spectators as Intel spews out an ever-increasing horde of Sandy Bridge variants and builds up the hype around its next-gen Ivy Bridge architecture.
AMD has pulled the curtains on its FX series of processors which includes the first unlocked 8 core processors. Last month they earned a Guiness World Record for the highest clocked speed reecorded with its 8 core CPU which was then codenamed Bulldozer.
Nice CPU for gaming, but still expensive cause even the six core i7 can beat this CPU in performance, AMD should cut the price of this to be able to compete with intel..
HardOCP: The goal of this evaluation today is to expand upon gaming performance with the AMD FX-8150 CPU using multiple-GPUs and higher resolutions. In our initial evaluation, we used a single Radeon HD 6970 GPU. This time, we are going to be using NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580, but we are using more than just one. We will be using two for standard SLI, and we are also including three in a Tri-SLI configuration. On top of that, we are going to be testing in a triple-display NV Surround setup that lets us test up to a resolution of 5760x1200, well beyond the 1080p we tested before.
BenchmarkReviews.com: The days when AMD processors ruled the performance roost are long gone, and most enthusiasts have forgotten they ever existed. But less than a decade ago, the Athlon X2 dual-core processor thoroughly spanked Intel's first crude dual-core efforts, which were simply two separate processor dies on one chip, communicating through the front-side bus, as opposed to AMD's much more advanced true dual-core CPUs. But AMD's been playing catch-up since then, and has been forced to compete on price rather than performance in desktop processors. Now Benchmark Reviews tests the high end of the new Bulldozer desktop CPU line, the multiplier-unlocked 8-core FX-8150 CPU.
the specs are crazy. 8 cores = tempting but i will wait for intels $1300 variation. its crazy that even though this is 8 cores the i7 is still keeping up with it.
