How Bad Do We Really Have it? Bandwidth Caps Around the World

Maximum PC: Remember the days when unlimited Internet connections were just that? Unlimited? "I’m not talking about a generational gap here—it seems like but a few years ago, that $40, or $60, or $80 you shuffled away to your favorite Internet service provider each month got you true unlimited Internet". You could download Linux distros until your router exploded; stream movies until your eyes exploded; play Counter-Strike until your… well, OK, Counter-Strike never really did use up that much bandwidth.

"We live in different times now". Each bit and byte of data you transmit has an effective price tag: You’re paying for unlimited service so long as you, like many others, ignore the fine print that specifically tells you just how much unlimited service you’re going to get until your ISP gets pissed.

Have never had a problem with Centurylink in the US and have exceeded 250GB/month quite often.

30GB a month here. Far too low.

as I expect UK is the most expensive...

Belgium is much more expensive

Virgin Media in the UK does indeed have unlimited bandwidth although I expect that to change in the next few years. Funny how instead of progressing we're having to use ISPs that add more and more restrictions.

Also Virgin has awful upload rates. I've never seen my upload get any higher than 2Mb/s. Despite that they don't seem to do anything to my connection when I'm using torrents (legal torrents of course).

wow just wow! You ppl complain about speeds and prices!

In my country - South Africa i get 9gb cap per month, with upload speeds less than 400kb/s top! and i almost pay R750pm, and that means i pay like $100 per month! Oh i forgot, its the best one in my country as well - Telkom!! Fucking Telkom! if my cap is up (the 9gb cap) im disconnected from internet!! FAIL

Think im going overseas when i finished my degree in accounting!!!
