Doctor Who's Sonic Screwdriver Could Someday Be Real

How's this for a DIY project: A team of ultrasonic engineers at Bristol University, together with The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair, are drawing up plans for how to build a real-world version of Doctor Who's famous sonic screwdriver.

Professor Bruce Drinkwater, a professor of ultrasonics that's also heading the group working with The Big Bang Fair, said that by operating the waves at frequencies way beyond the range of human hearing, you can use them to apply forces to objects.
