The solution is for the robots to support the displaced human population, particularly if the workforce change happens fairly quickly. One approach is to tax robots the same way human workers are taxed. Since, on average, the productivity of a robot is multiple times that of a human in the same capacity, the tax revenue should keep the tax base stable, plus make the support for the displaced affordable.

This isn't just altruism. People won't sit in a corner and quietly starve. Try disenfranchising most of a society, and see what happens. The French Revolution should serve as a guide.
