I'm not a pessimist like Hawking. I believe any alien species that has solved interstellar travel likely won't be hostile. At that point I'd imagine they'd have all the resources they need and likely are just exploring. They'd have no reason to be hostile towards us. They'd probably just want to study us, lol.
