You said it, i hate to say it and hopefully some will agree with me that people were way more smarter back then, than they are now.

We discover stuff and immediately say that there had to be a super natural involvement.

I wouldn't say people were way smarter back then. There were plenty of people that were just as stupid then as they are today. And there are plenty of modern day things which would seem impossible to people back then. Microchips for example are something that still amazes me to this day.
