We've been seeing the "digital drugs" that apparently use binaural beats to achieve a similar kind of effect for years. And loads claim they work. Obviously they don't and it's probably the same for this. It is almost certainly a placebo effect - euphoric placebo effects are quite easy to trigger. There are thousands of YouTube videos of teenagers "getting high" by praying (seriously). I think in this scenario there is a slightly plausible mechanism of action, although a study which could prove that the electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve causes a dopamine response would be highly appreciated.
