I dont think they are overreacting. Dorms can be krampt and most colleges already dont allow students to have candles in their rooms or any other potential fire hazards. Its not overacting its common sense, kids are stupid. Anecdotally I would know I went to whats considered a top college saw stupid things in the dorms and did a few myself.

It's like when saying Disneyland was overreacting for banning selfie sticks. No, they were totally right to do that. Nobody wants to get whacked in the face when some teenage girl swings her selfie stick out of her purse to take a picture in front of the castle.
