Vivaldi Browser Hits Beta After More Than 2M Downloads

Earlier this year, Opera’s former CEO Jon von Tetzchner launched Vivaldi, a new desktop browser for power users (and those who were unhappy with Opera’s direction after that company’s switch to Google’s rendering engine after von Tetzchner left). Vivaldi has now been downloaded more than 2 million times during its technical preview.

Vivaldi got bookmark icons and multiple instance support

With two recent releases in this year, the Vivaldi browser has got some significant updates. Besides core changes, the browser got icons for bookmarked sites in the left pane. Additionally, the browser got new installer options and command line arguments which will allow the user to run multiple instances of Vivaldi and specify the browser profile from the command line.

I use Vivaldi primarily. It's not the greatest but chrome crashes on me after 5 minutes of being idol so I'll be in the middle of a video. It still has a lot of bugs to be worked out but I'm enjoying it.

Former Opera Boss Just Built a New Browser Called Vivaldi

Maximum PC: Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder and former CEO of Opera Software, is back in the browser game with a new startup. It's called Vivaldi Technologies, of which Tetzchner is also the co-founder and CEO of, and he's just made a technical preview of his Vivaldi browser available to the public. While still early in development, it's already fleshed out with features that may attract Opera fans, like mouse gestures and a speed dial interface for displaying your favorite tabs on the new tabs page.

i really enjoyed opera 12. pity they stopped support for it.
since then i been using opera 15 onwards but it never really felt the same. ended up switching over to firefox as a primary browser.

guess if this new browser has the security and speed of firefox with the look and feel of opera 12 i just might be switching over to it.
