The website and social media pages for controversial human-rating app Peeple have been taken offline.
Peeple, the controversial people-rating application that lets its users rate and review anyone, is not a hoax or vaporware, as many suspected following the media backlash surrounding the unveiling of the company’s intentions last fall. The Washington Post even called the app “terrifying,” given that the app didn’t plan to allow users to opt out of being reviewed — a feature that remains in the version that launched this week.
Peeple, a controversial app that invites members to recommend others professionally, personally or as a date, is to launch in the US and Canada on 7 March.
Our dystopian not-so-distant future may soon include concerns about receiving Yelp-like one-star reviews from dissatisfied dates, or just about anyone who has your phone number. Possibly launching as soon as November, the upcoming Peeple app, which will launch on iOS first, is essentially Yelp for human beings.
