Yeah this is pretty pathetic and what really ices this cake is that they are a steady lack of options, and they know that so they charge what they want and care little what you actually think despite the lame "take our customer happiness survey". Too bad Internet isn't a utility then these guys would be under more control

Blasphemy3152d ago

if internet was a utility wouldnt they charge you by how much you download and not on flat fee?

Going to be interesting times if the internet is put into the utility closet and we are charged for data used and not just a flat fee.

Data compression technology advancement would skyrocket, and running high-data use web servers would be insanely expensive (imagine the price tag on Youtube's bandwidth). Heck, just imagine the outrage when game developers release those inevitable gigantic patches that are several gigs in size. And what if we are charged $5 or $10 a GB? That means a 5GB patch could be an additional $25/$50 to play that game.

Internet throttling and censorship is coming without a doubt, because the internet is essentially pure freedom in it's rawest sense. And every country around the world is hell bent on holding freedom down so they can control and manipulate their populace as much as possible. No way in hell the internet is going to be allowed to run the way it is for much longer.

Probably along with censorship and bandwidth throttling, I predict the internet will be region locked as well, preventing one country from being able to access another countries servers (unless it is government sanctioned). And maybe it will go as far as being state or county locked, preventing people from being able to communicate or see what the other part of the country is doing.

This is insanity and whats worse most of us have very little options for fast Internet.

welcome to canada. We get effed in the 'A' way worse than you folks in the US. I told you this was coming years ago. Further to that point, we can all expect to start being charged for data types.

ie: $5 for Youtube, $3 for Facebook etc etc. Just wait. It's coming and we can do nothing to stop it.
