Intel has announced its first Xeon system on chip (SoC), the Xeon D 1500 processor family, in what is probably best described as the meeting point between the Xeon E3 and Atom SoCs.
Aimed at powering server, storage and compute applications at the "network edge", the Xeon D SoCs take the best bits of the E3 and Atom SoCs and are aimed at the low-end server market where they will prioritise efficiency and networking.
