Today, the mobile industry is essentially a two-horse race between Apple and Samsung. Kirt McMaster, the CEO of Cyanogen Inc., doesn't think things will stay that way for much longer, however.
It’s been a rocky few months for Cyanogen, the ambitious startup that aimed to build a better version of Android than Google. It has laid off staff, let go of its CEO and parted ways with another co-founder — now it is shutting down its services and nightly software builds on December 31.
Gravis Ludus' Carl Williams writes, "It is no secret that Microsoft are working on various Android apps. They have ported their popular Office 365 over, they have even released Cortana. They have also released an Android launcher for people wanting to get a little more done with their Google device. Now, working with Cyanogen Cortana is included in OS version 12.1.1, don’t worry, you can uninstall her if you wish."
In a surprise development, Google has abandoned its own Java standard libraries for those of Oracle. The move might be the first step in settling an ongoing lawsuit, but the implications for the Android community are profound. And it offers a possible opening for Microsoft.
Yeah, keep telling yourself that, buddy.
How funny would it be if Cyanogen wasn't around in five years time?
Samsung seem to be upgrading from all the cheap plastic and and horrible charger ports. Overall they are nice phones but the devalue really quickly and they go bad almost all the time.
I don't like the inflexible lack of SD Card Expansion and non-user accessible battery, but Samsung is still doing a better job of distinguishing their phones aside from the Active and XCOVER series. The Note Edge and S6 Edge are the kind of distinction Samsung needed to pull off. Also the S6/Edge have unique color options so, can't go wrong there!
After Apple, samsung is known for innovation and introducing new features and game changers. You can keep telling your self that but that's not gonna happen in 5 years. Maybe 10? But definitely not 5.
