Maximum PC: The desktop isn't the only place you'll find interesting things happening with double data rate-4 (DDR4) memory. Samsung this week said it has begun mass producing what it claims is the industry's first 64GB DDR4 RDIMMs using three dimensional "through silicon via" (TSV) package technology intended for enterprise servers, cloud-based applications, and other data center solutions.
Whether you're a gamer, or a cinema lover, you don't want to miss this Samsung 77" 4K S90C Smart TV. Now over $1000 off.
Experience gameplay at its best with this Samsung G95NA monitor deal that sees a price drop of almost $1000.
Amazon and Best Buy are currently offering the lowest-ever price on the Samsung 990 2TB in their respective Black Friday deals.
Good grief. 64GB DIMMs? I'm in love.
Samsungs math is way off.
"The new RDIMMs employ 36 DDR4 DRAM chips, each of which consists of 4-gigabit (Gb) DDR4 DRAM dies."
8 Gigabits (Gb) = 1 Gigabyte (GB). 36x4Gb = 144Gb divided by 8 = 18GB, not 64.
Is RAMBUS a thing again?
I don't see why they couldn't do this first with DDR3 memory to work out the manufacturing kinks on a known standard. :c
"The DRAM Memories Subcommittee (JC-42.3) has been working since June 2008 on definitions of standardized 3D memory stacks for DDR3 that provide power and performance benefits a full generation ahead of conventional technology."
They did. They just didn't sell it to you.
