VRFocus - Today sees two surprise announcements coming from True Player Gear: a rebranding of their production team and the intention to upgrade the screen featured within their forthcoming head-mounted display (HMD), the Totem. At present, the Totem features a 1080p LCD screen and custom PCB, however the plan is to replace this with a low persistence OLED panel within a few months.
Apple is staying quiet on its recent purchase.
"Canadian company Vrvana launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their tentatively named Totem virtual reality headset. At first glance the device looks very similar to the Oculus Rift, but can it offer something more? Well, according to the company, Totem has “features that have never been seen before”. This will apparently be a “premium” VR headset that comes with 1080p resolution OLDED display and a 90 degree field of view. "
VRFocus - As virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts will already know, there are far more VR head-mounted displays (HMD) currently in development other than the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus. Earlier this month Samsung made a huge impression on the scene with its Gear VR smartphone-based HMD while others have either quietly released or seen successful Kickstarter campaigns. Vrvana hopes to launch join the latter category over the coming weeks as it launches a Kickstarter campaign for its Totem HMD later this week.
