Samsung phone catches fire under girl’s pillow

A 13-year-old Texas girl was recently awoken by a smoldering Samsung cell phone under her pillow, according to a report from KDFW.

Ariel Tolfree told KDFW she placed her Samsung Galaxy S4 under her pillow as she fell asleep. Later that night, she smelled something burning

Derp. This is not news worthy. Samsung owes them nothing. You put a high power electronic device under a pillow or any other cover and then add body weight to it, no s#!t it overheated. Can't believe we live in a time where people actually expect/require matters of common sense to be stated in warnings. This is like someone sticking their 8!ck in a ceiling fan then complaining the fan was unsafe.

that's irrelevant! the phone should not be catching fire PERIOD! it should be consumer friendly! i work at Carphone warehouse and believe me when i tell you that Samsung galaxy's catching fire and melting inside peoples pockets is common! we get them returned allot! i would never give my kids one, put it that way! iphone on the other hand we have never had one come back with fire/burning etc problems.

The battery going dead and over heating is common trust me! people need to be careful.
I for one have made all my family switch brands, as much as i love Samsung and the android os over ios no way i would not warn family about something which could potentially kill em LOL

You clearly have zero understanding of lithium ion batteries. If they overheat, they can catch fire. It is the nature of the technology and has nothing to do with quality. BTW, yes IPhones do catch fire also, it happens all the time.

Stick a powered on IPhone under a pillow and sleep on it all night and i assure you, you will wake up with less hair.

guess we should start posting more iphone explodes stories on the web so blind followers like yourself can wake up.....

you may want to start changing your families phones asap now that you know iphones explode as well. just saying....just coz its not reported on some sites, doesnt mean it never happens.

FYI - in my experiences not one HTC has ever exploded. HTC Snap, Htc touch diamond/diamond 2, desire z and ONE X never had a single problem. neither has any of my samsung/sony/nokia mobiles. doesnt mean i go around telling everyone i know never to get an iphone.

@Dasteru @KingPin
Are you both retarded? or just unpaid employees of Samsung????
Seriously we are adults and are allowed to have different opinions! stop crying like babies!
I work in the biggest mobile phone retailer in the uk and i assure you we have been getting allot of Samsung galaxy s4 phones sent in for repairs or claims on the insurance which my company provides for the phone over heating, melting and catching fire!!!!!

Believe it or dont, i couldn't care less what you think! why is it kids like you throw a hissy fit when some one has a different opinion to you? if you are both so weak minded you should stay off the internet! seriously if you feel like making love to your galaxy go right ahead, but dont try to talk shit to me!

I work in the biggest mobile phone retailer in the uk, and in our repair centre we have had allot of melting and over heating problems with the S4, believe it, or dont believe it I DON'T GIVE A TOSS!! iam simply putting out my opinion which i am allowed to do.

You both are basing your opinion on a few stories you have read online, i am basing my opinion from working in the biggest mobile phone retailer in the uk, i see, fix and sell these phones on a daily basis! make of that what you will!

The galaxy series is a awesome smart phone, but the S4 has faults these are well documented!
The S4 is VERY DURABLE, it can be dropped several times and still not break unlike some iphone models but the melting and over heating problem is a real problem which i have seen more on the S4 then on any other phone!

Don't get your knickers all up in a bunch just because i stated my opinion about some thing which you may love! JESUS ITS JUST A PIECE OF PLASTIC!

Oh and i have left my Iphones/Sony Xperia/Nokia Lumia and my wife's Galaxy s3 mini under our pillow while sleeping loads of time! and they have never melted or over heated! LOL

@LonDonE:

Ironic you accuse me and King of crying like babies. We are simply correcting your assumption that IPhones have no issues or that lithium ion batteries overheating and catching fire is somehow a quality concern, rather than just an inherent issue with the technology. You are the one that seems to be making a big deal out of it and "crying like a baby"

It's not entirely rare, but it's not uncommon either. It's one of those "few and far between" issues, but they do seem to come in bundles every now and again. Besides, the phone should not have been under her pillow in any case.
