Big week of big news at Microsoft, huh? Restructuring, layoffs around the globe, a re-imaging of what the company’s purpose is, and assurances that it’s all for the better, going to be great, and you’ll like what you get.
And what did we get this week? Well, aside from all the above, we got some more free space on OneDrive. We saw all those neat TV plans for XBox One cancelled. We received a glitchy release of Windows Phone 8.1 and the Cyan firmware, which led MS to cancel the Developers Preview momentarily and a recommendation to reset (downgrade) your phones if you have the DP 8.1 OS to WP 8.0 before updating to Cyan, or wait for Microsoft to issue a fix to the 8.1 developer preview
And, for once, some of what it can do looks genuinely useful.
Microsoft is laying off more employees, a new round after they cut thousands last year. It seems like many big tech companies are doing the same.
The blog post reads, “We’re introducing a new WhatsApp app for Windows that loads faster and is built with an interface similar to the app's mobile version.”
