Even Google Employees Are Giving Up On Google Glass

Business Insider- Here's a bad sign for Google's still-nascent Glass project from Glass-evangelist Robert Scoble:
I'm also worried at a new trend: I rarely see Google employees wearing theirs anymore. Most say "I just don't like advertising that I work for Google." I understand that. Quite a few people assume I work for Google when they see me with mine

Good. Don't need that kind of invasion in my life.

ChrisW3757d ago

Simple minded paranoia!

First and foremost, if you live in a city, your actions are being recorded much more than you'd care to have them to be.

Secondly, hardly anyone looks at such recordings unless you've done something wrong or someone near you was doing something wrong.

Thirdly, a large population has smartphones and cameras on them all the time. If your picture hasn't been accidentally taken by someone, it's because you've never left your house or your next door neighbor is more than a mile away.

Lastly, it's 2014... And time only moves forward!

@ChrisW think your missing the point.

Google Glasses would be used by the user all day. CCTV doesn't record for public broadcast and its data is destroyed daily/weekly/monthly.

Google already admitted to data mining information from all its outlets. If you believe no one will see them, your laughable.

Taking casual pictures in public with friends is one thing. Having Google data mine images of your own house, what your possession are and daily activities is a different kettle of fish.

Maybe 2014, but nobody will ever be ready to have adverts chasing them 24/7 or have someone say I know your life.

Think logically for a second. You say nobody looks at the recordings unless you've done something wrong....how do they know that you've done something wrong unless they are, in fact, monitoring your recordings?
Progress should not infringe on the privacy of the individual. You say simple minded paranoia, I call your position simple minded acceptance. Why should large corporations have access to so much data on people? Crime prevention via CCTV in city centres is one thing, it's quite another to blindly allow them access to all areas of your life - your spending habits, your movements, what you watch, what you read, how often you do all these things. Even if you're squeaky clean, and have never done a single thing wrong in your life, why on Earth would you want faceless strangers pouring over every aspect of your life so they can bombard you with targeted advertising and other such inconvenient nonsense? Why would you so willingly open yourself up to that level of intrusion into your life? It's either staggering naivety, unbelievable narcissism, or both.

I don't understand why anyone care to hate or love. If you like it buy it, if not then don't buy it. Success only speaks for itself. I don't see Google Glass to be a success who just wanders around and live their own life which I think are average. Smartphone does more than enough. Even Smart watch won't be a success.

The only thing I see a success with Google Glass are the business and corporations, and not mentions those skaters who always record what they can do. Imagine no more holding smart phone or camcorders. It's not doable with Glass on your eye recording.

Sports is going to have a lot of opportunity like NFL and UFC and more.

When I saw APPLE commercial with iPad, I was thinking, damn all these people the commercial are showing are related to business, and they probably need this than holding big tablets.

Otherwise consumer I don't see why they care. Not saying because of privacy, but what the hell!

And anyone complaining about Prviacy are f**kin idiots! NSA and many more including SmartPhones are on your ass. Get with the program!

Google Glass is no go for me. But I'd happy to grab one to play with it.

I will never like to wear those glasses every time just to advertise it.

ChrisW3757d ago

People advertise things all the time. Name-brand clothing and what not. I, myself, don't care for name-brand advertising... But I would love to give those glasses a trial!!!

That being said, I don't live in an overly paranoid country. So people would be much more interested than wary if I were to wear them in public.

dennett3163757d ago

Yes, but a Nike shirt doesn't collect data on you, and those around you when you wear it.
Anyone not wary of a camera being thrust in their face is a person a little too naive for their own good. A CCTV camera monitoring an area of a town centre is one thing, a camera attached to everyone's head that records all sorts of data on the user and those around them is quite another. The concept is similar, but the latter is far more invasive than the former.

it just looks stupid and a non necessity. Maybe if they made it look like normal/sun glasses or something

GiNJAXL3757d ago

Their existence is completely pointless. They serve no purpose other than to say you own them. They are something for the hipsters to jump on because it's cool. This isn't a 1980's hollywood sci-fi movie. Nothing about this is practical. Nobody in the world is so important that they need to broadcast all day everyday. Watching them die slowly brings me much joy.

"780mAh battery" yeah, no thanks. I've seen what batteries do when they overheat; but hopefully they won't have a Samsung situation.
