The new Xbox One: What we lost and why it matters

Geek - n a spectacular display of spineless retreat, Microsoft pulled their entire digital philosophy for the Xbox One and announced that everything would work exactly as it does on the current console. Unfortunately that means we lost the features that really set the Xbox One apart.

I blame the journalists, honestly.

ChrisW3953d ago

I also blame the Sony Sheep who never plan on buying an Xbox One in the first place. Meaning, a majority of the criticism about Xbox One was from TROLLS who only wanted to ridicule the console!

SilentNegotiator3953d ago (Edited 3953d ago )

Preorders were higher for Ps4s than Xbox One in the US; 360 territory.

There's no logic to blaming "PS trolls" for Xbox One's change.

10 people to one game would have been hell on sales anyway. Even more third party support would have shifted away from Xbox if not for the 180.

you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Sony sheep dont give a damn about X1. they want to play games and PS4 will deliver! most powerful console 100$ cheaper.

sheep > pigeon

They give a damn enough to troll about it.

Seriously... arrogant fool, read N4G forums without bias and you'll be embarrassed!

It is not a question of fanboys. It's a concern of consumer rights. If you were to blind to see the blatant violation of consumer rights with the Xbox One, I feel very sorry for you. If you want to join the heard of sheeple that allow corporations to take over their lives with crap like this then go ahead, make 1984 a reality for yourself.

Personally I like to question what I'm getting or going to believe in. I like the idea of actually owning the device I buy and not licensing to use that device. Remember this is essentially what Microsoft was going to do with the Xbox One. They were essentially going to license it to you; if you did anything to get yourself banned or have your account locked otherwise, you'd loose access to EVERYTHING associated with that account; even the games you purchased at RETAIL and still have PHYSICAL versions of. They were going to apply the digital DRM model to physical games! I'm sorry...NO. This isn't right one single bit.

The DRM was many to mitigate piracy and the fact it ate into used game re-saleability was just a bonus feature to get publishers on board. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY, people to benefit from Microsoft's now defunct model for the Xbox One is publishers and Microsoft, NOT YOU. YOU ARE LOOSING YOUR RIGHTS! The RIGHT to resell, trade or do what you wish to what you BOUGHT and PAID good money for.

Consoles are already inherently more difficult than PCs to pirate/copy games so this level of BS is not needed. I'm not saying it's non-existent just more difficult and usually requires some level of technical skill and hard-modding; PC's just require a cracked EXE that can be easily downloaded.

Don't ever put up with anti-consumer BS like this and always fight back.

Sony Sheep don't... That's obvious!

MWH3953d ago

if Sony has Sheep what does Microsoft have? let me guess, communists?

ChrisW3953d ago (Edited 3953d ago )

Sony has Sheep and MS has Xbots. Sheesh! Get with the lingo!

Oh and, Sheep are 'Nazis' and Xbots are 'Communists'... DUH!!!

ChrisW3953d ago

* Sign in every 24 hours. There was no way that could have been realistic! Even if it was said by accidient, it's not realistic! But, journalists and opposition fanboys took that and ran rampant with it. Pathetic!

* DRM. It's sad to see it go.

I thought this ide was really good and also made the xbox one a fast switching console. Also the match making when playing a different game was great to. I hope Microsoft can find a way for an opt in and out for this as I really liked the ide and the way that it all worked. Its not for everyone but why should people who wanted it miss it as this is what made the one different to the PS4 and WiiU.

I don't understand the complaining about loosing account linking for physical copies. Physical copies are and always have been about collecting, and a collection isn't worth shit without the ability to trade/sell it.

If the disk is just going to sit on the shelf and never be touched again, buy the digital copy, you still have all the features that were previously announced (account linking, accessing your collection from any system without needing a disk) without f'ing over people who have a legitimate want of physical copies.

Having physical copies act as digitals completely defeats the purpose of a physical copy.
