Tell me again why we need Office on the iPad?

Zdnet - If we're not going to get Office for the iPad until late 2014, and we seem to be doing alright without it now, is it even something we need in our lives?

COZ.

Maybe you don't need it, but there are definitely people out there who do.

Not really, most apps and programs read/save in .doc's.

You comment shows that you have no clue how robust Office is... I can't edit documents and spreadsheets for work (though I can view them fine) on anything other then Office without removing features required for the continued use.... something as simple as sharing

Cueil, you will never get a job as an accountant. SME's don't use office because there is cheaper alternatives. Long are the days gone when Micro$oft ruled the office program market, why would folk pay $300 or £250+ for a packages of software. You get 2-3 program you need and 3-4 you don't. .docs, excel and the rest are dying trend..

Office is robust - don't me laugh.... M$ stick one extra feature and remove one feature per year and try and sell it. They pumped fun, laughter and their version of awesome into Windows 8, I haven't heard any good come from it, last time I checked companies have 1/2 orders of it.

Google will finish off office, it is only a matter of years. Actually this year, if it doesn't sell it will be either scrapped or drastically changed.
