Next generation mobile processors will outperform PS3 and Xbox 360

Bit-Tech - According to Tony Tamasi, Senior Vice President of Content & Technology for Nvidia, the next generation of mobile phone graphics processors will outperform those of the PS3 or Xbox 360. (Gaming, Phones, PS3, Xbox 360)

This will be interesting to see.

bravo, better than 7years old consoles!

fatstarr  +   1048d ago
... those graphics have been touted and sucked off by the mainstream for so long Now...
It makes me sick that the next gen wave of graphics hasn't come out yet.

Because you know, getting the performance packed down into a mobile device is simply something we do the day after inventing anything that needs a big casing and vents to cool down.

Handheld game systems already nearly match their home predecessors 5-7 years later, so uh...yeah, no shocker there.

I play lots of mobile and tablet games...
They are fun for killing time but will never look or play better than console games.
The_Infected  +   1048d ago
Only took 7+ years. Then it all starts over again.

Duh, PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware are old hat now...but still cool that technology has come this far.

Even with all that power i do not see Smartphone or even Tablets being considered as hardcore gaming devices, they will always be good for Casual Gaming.
shutUpAndTakeMyMoney  +   1048d ago
They could effect the long term sales of previous console which seem to be still selling.
mcstorm  +   1048d ago
Mezzo a tablet could become a core gaming device if you can add a joypad to it and it has some AAA games to but I still think we are a little way off this yet. I have a surface rt and own a 360 usb controller dongle that comes in handy for playing some games like snes emulator or some of the games that enable you to use the controller and connect it to my 46" tv and it dose a good job at displaying them.

I agree at this moment in time they are not ready to take on the next gen consoles but maybe in 7 to 10 years time they could be what we use instead of home consoles.

Next Gen after this is going to be on a device that does it all... maybe even with being as small as a phone... Crazy times. Also, with Nanotechnology being used to construct materials from a deeper position on the atomic level, they're able to construct materials that is harder than steel and lighter than anything else before it. They could probably create a material that is better than silicon!

Maybe, Its possible but always remember, If mobile technology advances so does the PC and console technology. You can't beat a good old Graphics card for a High end PC. By the time mobile games reach PS3/360 graphics, The PC and Console tech at that time is ahead more with realistic graphics and I even think we are there with PS4 and xbox 720 with realtime looking like prerendered CGI

what is it with Nvidia these days and all their trash-talk?
Sucitta  +   1048d ago
they are just bitter AMD owns the console market now. not sure how you got 5 Disagrees for mentioning reality.
chukamachine  +   1048d ago
See how hot your phone, tablet gets when running games for alittle while.

Nvidia you sound like crytek.
DigitalSmoke  +   1048d ago
No they won't, developers cant and or wont optimize like they do on console games.
All the hardware in the world won't get you an uncharted/Killzone or name it, it takes a dedicated developer who puts work to the hardware, and PC don't "realt" have those at this point.

They better! PS3 and 360 are old fogies by now, albeit very capable.
cyhm3112  +   1048d ago
Nvidia always lies. I don't think the next mobile chip from them can outperform ps360. They said Tegra 4 can match PS360, see what it becomes? Not even 1/3 of their power!!
sourav93  +   1048d ago
Even though they might be more powerful than the PS3 and 360 on paper, mobile gaming will never get the developer support that dedicated gaming consoles get. The games will never be optimised to utilise the full hardware. Have fun playing doodle jump and NOVA.
hellvaguy  +   1048d ago
Lol I wouldn't ever use Nova to make your case against cell phone graphics. Nova 3 looks like its being played on the ps360 (maybe not the AAA games, but any others).
sourav93  +   1048d ago
First of all, I wasn't making a hit against the graphics, more on the really crap control scheme and poor optimisation. But since you brought graphics into it, I would have to say Nova 3 looks worse than most launch ps360 games. Don't get me wrong, it has good graphics for mobile devices, but no where close to that of consoles.

"" I guess playing temple run and shadowgun makes you think that you're a hardcore gamer"

After face planting yourself from trying to retract your statements, this was really the best insult you could make up? Kinda pathetic...just sayin.
hellvaguy  +   1047d ago
Actually your lying because the only thing ever mentioned was the power of the hardware, Control scheme was never once hinted at in your original thread.

"Even though they might be more powerful than the PS3 and 360 on paper, mobile gaming will never get the developer support that dedicated gaming consoles get. The games will never be optimised to utilise the full hardware"

In my original post, I also said "The games will never be optimised to utilise the full hardware", after which I go on to give Nova 3 as an example. And on my reply post, I said "First of all, I wasn't making a hit against the graphics, more on the really crap control scheme and poor optimisation.". So you see, I wasn't 'lying'. And are you seriously arguing that mobile games will ever be as good as console games? I guess playing temple run and shadowgun makes you think that you're a hardcore gamer. But remember one thing, at least in the near future, mobile gaming will never be considered as hardcore.

That's not surprising, we all know that consoles are old now. PS4 is in the horizon.

I honestly don't give a damn about mobile.

I'm probably the minority here but I honestly just don't care. People keep talking to me about new iOS and Android apps/games and I just don't care, I'm fine using my desktop computer.

Even if mobiles became more powerful (which they probably will one day considering the hardware upgrades), I would still rather use a desktop PC. I just dislike the idea of using a small screen, especially a touch screen. I would rather use my 27" Monitor with a keyboard and mouse.
extermin8or  +   1047d ago
This is a gaming site, used mainly by core gamers (fanboy's or not there's one thing we all have in common) so I doubt you're the minority. Mobile games for phones are great for killing abit of time, but I'd still take a ps1 classic on my vita over one of them. Or an actual vitis due to be released.a or 3DS game depending on its title and developers. Also so say next Gen mobile processors are good, so we have another 6 years is till they catch up to ps4-just as Ps5

nvidia have been making a lot of claims since ps4 specs were released, suck it up
