He profited on piracy. While there are many reasons (legit reasons imo) why people pirate, he still made money off a wrongdoing. There is no denying that the majority of his past service was use for hosting copyrighted material.
All the parading about trying to re-invent the system, that's great for the end user, but at the end of the day he is just being a business man. I don't think his heart really is in the right place. Dunno why people see him as some kind of martyr.
Be careful. Just read that Mega uploads your IP's and doesn't give you the anonymity that people might think they have. Their privacy policy says they will sell you out if harassed. But apparently it does a great job on encrypting your uploaded files which is sweet.
Damn that guy must be hella loaded to get away with what he did, I can't believe he is already out? Or did he even go to jail at all, probably not with all the money he has.
