Sigma announces 46MP DP3 Merrill compact camera

Techradar-The DP3 Merrill has a 50mm f/2.8 optic, whereas the DP1 Merrill has a 19mm lens and the DP2 Merrill a 30mm lens.
Because the DP3 Merrill has an APS-C sized (23.4x15.7mm) sensor this 50mm lens produces images comparable with a 75mm on a full-frame camera.

Pocket-Lint: Sigma DP3 Merrill compact camera pictures and hands-on

Pocket-Lint: Sigma has updated its DP-series of high-end, APS-C sensor cameras with the introduction of the DP3 Merrill. Pocket-lint was able to extract the latest compact from behind its display on the Sigma stand at this year's Consumer Electronics Show to have a play.

While its spec is similar to the DP2 Merrill, in that it shares the same Foveon X3 APS-C sensor, it's the lens that's the DP3's main calling card.

Sigma: CSC lenses are a 'leap of faith'

TechRadar - Sigma has admitted that its recent entry into the compact system camera market in the shape of compatible lenses is a bit of a gamble.

Speaking to TechRadar at Focus on Imaging, Graham Armitage, MD of Sigma UK, said "It's a bit of a leap of faith, but if they sell well then we'll make some more."
