Putting aside the LTE comments, sounds really fanboyish. Switching from one system to the other will always have its teething problems, i.e. have to re-learn a system from scratch. It would be pointless if all the systems worked in the same way because then there would be no differentiation between the two operating systems. Didn't realize this whole rant was mostly about email issues though. I can't speak for HTC customers, but on vanilla installs of Android, there is a default mail app which handles everything, even though Google still pushes their Gmail app. Nonetheless, you can use Gmail via the default mail app.
I have an Xperia, the first time I turned it on it asked me to enter my email addresses, so I did. That was all the setup it required to receive emails. When I get new mail it appears on a drag down bar on the top of the screen, click and read.
