The fact of the matter is this:
If Android has 2000000 apps and IOS has 4000000 apps and Windows has 1000000 apps does it really matter? The average user, besides games, will only regularly use about 10 imho.
I have wp7 and have downloaded probably 200 apps over the time span but only regularly use 5. Kindle, Netflix, Ebay, google voice, and appflow. Some apps I have had to uninstall because I forgot that I had downloaded them and they just sat there for nothing for a long time.
The point is, as the author stated in his piece, app number is a mute argument.
