Engadget - Amazon has made the jump from small to big screens with its e-readers in the past, and its now done so again with its tablets. The company has just announced its new Kindle Fire HD.

The company’s current Kindle Fire HD models were the result of that realization, though they were merely the tip of the iceberg. With its next-generation Kindle Fire HD tablets that are set to debut this fall, Amazon is taking things to a completely different level — and its rivals should be worried."
If these specs are completely true than the Nexus 7 (2013) is in for some serious competition But I'm not sure if Amazon can pull this off.
Maximum PC: As a consumer, you have to love price wars, so long as both companies competing for your dollars stay in business. Right now there's a price war brewing between Barnes & Noble with its Nook HD and HD+ tablets, and Amazon with its Kindle Fire HD tablets, the latter of which is now on sale starting at $169. This is a temporary price cut and if you're a Prime member, you get free 2-day shipping to boot.
they should just make it 99$ and call it a day. once nexus 2.0 comes out this will essentially be obsolete.
Maximum PC: Father's Day is only a couple of weeks away, and one way to celebrate the occasion is by getting your dad a gift. You could go with a tie (again) or some other piece of clothing, take him out to dinner, or wait for us to finalize our gift guide (hang tight, it's coming). One of the items that has a high chance of making the list is Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, and if you' don't procrastinate, you can save yourself $20 with the purchase of one.

I'm still waiting for the Surface.
The high-end model is a dual core 1.5 GHz with PowerVR... basically the equivalent of the current iPad, but with a higher rez screen. The smaller model is a 1.2GHz dual-core chip, probably with a weaker GPU as well.
Still not the equivalent of the PSVita, when it comes to gaming. I'll pass. I got a 9" 1280x800, 32GB Android Tegra2 tablet already. I don't think the extra pixels are worth the side-grade.
