Particle that allows living without breathing

TFP: Patients unable to breathe because of acute lung failure or an obstructed airway need another way to get oxygen to their blood—and fast—to avoid cardiac arrest and brain injury. A team led by researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital has designed tiny, gas-filled microparticles that can be injected directly into the bloodstream to quickly oxygenate the blood. (Hi-tech)

Can I join the X Men league now?
No but I would expect a survival kit for the extreme farting apocalypse.

Hopefully they can expand the lifespan of those particles and make it portable...carry a few cans around with you just in case the Umbrella corporation poisons the atmosphere.

Now we can finally live on the Moon.

Now we can explore mars.
CYBERSNAKE  +   309d ago
I don't think you guys up above read it properly, it only lasts for 15 minutes. So unless you plan on exploring other planets for only a couple of minutes it's useless. It will only be used in hospitals as a short-term oxygen substitute.

@Cybersnake
But... this is only the beginning... who knows what types of applications this can be used for... For example, imagine having it available for miners if there is a collapse... or on subs in the event that the air system is compromised... or on the ISS or in space capsules... or, even, yes, on the Moon or Mars for permanent settlements... who knows where they can go with this.

But do the effects stack? :o
Injecting yourself 4 times would stack up to 60 minutes!! That's an hour!!! Imagine all the "hold your breath the longest" matches you could win >_<

I think something like that already exists.
ImpliedDeception  +   309d ago
That exists. Google oxygenated fluorocarbon.

The rat they submerged in the movie was real, you're watching it breathe the stuff.

...

You just blew my ****ing mind.

This means if you are unable to breath and the paramedics are going to take 10 mins to fix that somehow then this will let u live without breathing normally for 15 minutes. which means it can eliminate brain damage and the like caused by a lack of oxygen to the blood stream.

so the first thing they might do when they find u passed out cause u are choked on something stuck in your throat is to inject you with this stuff and could save u from being a vegetable..
or for someone thats had head trauma in a motorcycle accident this can help them maybe on way to the ER
