Like a few have mentioned here already the reason for the massive uptake of android devices is down to the diverce choice of handsets accross a scalable range of hardware specs.

I have an iPhone 4 and most of my friends and family are impressed with it but as it only comes in two options (iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s) which are pretty expensive either as an outright purchase or on contract most of the people I know just can't justify the money outlay.
Once you let them know that thier is a cheaper option that does all that the iPhone does at a fraction of the price then within weeks they end up with an android device.

Sure most of these are at the urgent end of the range but as long as they can browse the Internet, view Iplayer/tv catch up, check emails and have access to the google play store for games and apps most people are happy, even more so they are over the moon with the savings in their wallet.

It's all about covering all your bases with scaled hardware and giving consumers the option get into the smartphone revolution with very little outlay and android allows this where apple is an expensive brand to buy in to.

in future i think we will see the competition between android and windows market !!

Apple are the new Microsoft. Android will prevail and Apple will fail. It's just destiny.

The problem I have with apple is their cocky attitude and all the women and children that think i-crap is cool.

used Windows OS, iOS, BB OS and finally moved to the Droid and I can say ... Apple can not expect to sit this out easy.

droid OS with my SG S3... think i can have 30 apps running and still have RAM left to run an entire other phone with apps... that 2 Gigs of RAM is making that phone a beast. Of course you have so many other "choices" out there for cheaper.

Wished RIM would of released BBX to have a real chance at giving the consumers more choice. Never can go wrong with some healthy competition.

As the smartphone marketshare grows, androids share will grow.. they are cheaper and easier for a sales person to sell to someone. Apple isn't losing anyone, they have their base of dedicated users. Make no mistake though, every single time Apple announces a new phone.. it will regain any lost ground.

But i still make a lot more money developing for Apple than Android, sadly (because i prefer Android).

The Android audience doesn't like to spend money at apps. =[

I'd be interested if they did a survey about whether apple or android had more users running their latest OS. Also be interested in how much each of their app stores is generating in revenue.

Maybe if apple would stop giving us bolony every year with minor upgrades to the phone they would have a bigger fan base. I'm tired of a 3 1/2 inch screen. The rumor is we're getting a 4 inches. Wow......... An extra half inch whoopti do. Who cares about .5 extra inches. Make it 4.5 inches and I'll stop trash talking apple.

I'm super excited for a smart phone with a 10" screen.... that's going to be the cats ass.

How many different phones are running Android vs Apple phones? Android is running on lots of phones but IOS still has the bigger marketshareIts now spin that all you want.

My main gripe with the iphone is the proprietary connector & the mandatory use of itunes for uploading content.

The apple is made to be eaten anyway.

After i updated to ICS adobe flash doesn't work so its useless to me now.

I actually want MS to become the new SEGA.
