Decidingedge: New research has shown that mobile news applications are competing with Twitter’s mobile app to relay relevant world events to the general populace. These apps play a vital role in the news economy; many editors are hopeful that the revenue from these apps may offset the losses seen in broadcast news and print. Unfortunately, these news apps are expensive to both make and maintain. While the larger news organizations may benefit from apps in terms of maintaining news authority and mindshare, few of them are making revenues off of them.
And, for once, some of what it can do looks genuinely useful.
