Japan Launches 4.5-tonne Smartphone-Controlled Robot

I think you meant, how long till we discover there is an already functional military project with much more stuff.

Civilian tech/ or tech available for the masses is always driven by military projects.

Stop shitting yourselves already! With today's tech mankind can achieve far greater things than building a 4.5 ton robot that runs on a diesel engine. The robots that are building our cars and computers are far more advanced than this piece of metal. Sure it looks fun, but it just has no use. Other manmade machines are much more capable, because they were built having a certain perpose in mind and not minding the looks of things. Using humanlike robots for military or industrial purposes just isn't a rational thing to do. Unless you just want to WOW people by showing you've built a superhuman, there isn't much to gain here for human kind.

nice robot now make some that can actually fly and have feet cause the 4 wheel isn't that cool.

pretty soon they'll develop not just gundam inspired robots but ironman suits as well.
