Pocket-Lint: YouView's non-executive chairman Alan Sugar has claimed that the new service will not be aiming to steal users away from pay-TV rivals Sky and Virgin Media, but to take on Freeview in the home. At least when it comes to set-top-boxes.
Speaking at the launch of the service and the Humax DTR-T1000, the first YouView box to hit the shops later in July, Lord Sugar understands that many TV viewers only want one set-top-box in their living rooms, but claims that the current Freeview ones aren't doing a good enough job.
YouView, which pioneered an easy-to-use TV service that seamlessly combines live and catch up television, has added Netflix, the world’s largest internet TV network, to its line up of television services.
The ever growing selection of titles available on Netflix can be discovered via YouView’s seamlessly integrated search function, making it easy to find the TV and movies you love.
Available to watch today are complete TV box sets including Breaking Bad, The Originals, Homeland and Netflix original series such as Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and Bojack Horseman.
Pocket-Lint: YouView has pushed out an update to the YouView Humax set-top box that brings with it a number of tweaks and changes.
From a content point of view, the update, once installed, will include live TV programmes into search results. There will be a new "On Now & Next" tab, so you can go straight to the relevant channel, as well as the current selection of On Demand content.
Pocket-Lint: It's no secret that YouView - the on-demand TV service set-top box - has sparked mixed reactions, but the service looks to be expanding by tagging extra controls beyond its at-home experience. Announced just as 2012 comes to a close, YouView Remote Record is a free iOS application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
