at least they didn't push it down every pc/laptop potential customers throats. similar to what they did with vista.
you couldn't find 1 xp running laptop when they did that move.
all they needed to do was make it a option as to how you start off for desktop pc's. if we were given a choice how it will continually start up, either in metro mode or desktop mode, all this hatred would have been muted from the get go,
