Samsung Galaxy Round announced as the world's first curved display smartphone

TechRadar.com: "Samsung official announced the Galaxy Round, straight-up declaring it to be the world's first smartphone with a curved display.

It's anything but straight, though. The concave phone has a unique 5.7-inch AMOLED screen, which makes it the same size as the recently launched and suddenly very flat-looking Galaxy Note 3."

Why do we actually need curved displays? I have no problem with my non-curved display devices. Just some BS.

Curved displays would eventually lead to the elimination of buttons. I've also been reading how they could replace papered billboards and such. Wearable technology too.

Still, I don't like having a curved smartphone in my hand. Could be useful for billboards n stuff but no smartphones.

Adorie, can you explain to me how a curved display will lead to the elimination of buttons? I'd love to know how you came up with that.

The back of the phone curved in to fit your palm, so that makes sense with the front screen curved in too.. so you think they gonna stop making non-curve screen or what? no.. it's an option, I liked it.

We spent about 70 years trying to make flatter screens for CRTs and then when we basically eliminate that and move to newer technologies we want to make screens curved again.

Marketing LOL

A CURVED OLED IN A HARDSHELL IS COMPLETELY USELESS.

now on the other hand if this means you can drop your phone without smashing the screen, that is more significant.

I thought the Nexus Phone from 2yrs ago was the first "curved" screen? It sure looks like it has a slight curve to it.

EDIT

Nevermind...I see it curves slightly into the middle...a different level of curvature

It seems like it'd feel more natural to the hand than a flat phone.

I wondering how though is this curve display. We want to see drop test as soon as possible. Is the curve display more resistant to breakage or not?
