Teenager arrested for Facebook post Beaten up in Prison

RT: Things aren’t getting any better for a 19-year-old video gamer who has been locked up since March for the remarks he made over Facebook. The father of the teen now says his son is being beaten up while he waits to stand trial.

In an interview with National Public Radio that aired Wednesday, Jack Carter said his son Justin has suffered countless injuries since being locked up in a Texas detention facility more than three months ago.

"Without getting into the really nasty details, he's had concussions, black eyes, moved four times from base for his own protection," Jack Carter told NPR. "He's been put in solitary confinement, nude, for days on end because he's depressed. All of this is extremely traumatic to this kid. This is a horrible experience."

It would seem that many of our laws are designed to make criminals - not prevent them. He doesn't deserve this at all.

And to think that this is what america is becoming.

Edit: Just read up on Josh Pillault, and it doesn't paint a good picture for the future. I fear they may be used as scapegoats to push even worse legislation in place.

Prison only removes the threat from our eyes, it doesn't dissolve it.

mrbearbear3938d ago

kid gets locked up for saying something stupid on facebook. While it may have been in bad taste, it certainly doesnt justify being locked up for it. What happened to free speech?

hkgamer3937d ago

its a shame that he is getting locked up for posting a stupid joke on the internet.

I know he said something serious that could count as a serious terrorist threat. but clearly he doesn't look the type.

MonChiChi3937d ago

Our justice system + everyone and their parent's wanting to feel offended, does not bode well for the US.

RedHawkX3937d ago

to many people being dumbasses on the internet and if this happend to all of them then they would stop being idiots on the inernet. you cant read a youtube comment without someone saying the stupidest things. there needs to be more accountability for the things people say on the internet. you dont hear people saying things outside the internet that people are saying on youtube. society trying to live to lives.

SnakeCQC3937d ago

saying something stupid isn't a crime and prosecuting them is a waste of time and tax payer money therein outweighing the first stupid thing. The guys got a prison sentence and physically abused for writing something online because some idiot called the police over it.

RedHawkX3937d ago

ill gladly pay the money to get rid of all these idiots.

cleft53937d ago

In the U.S> our constitution says you are innocent until proven guilty. Apparently that is no longer true. The kid said something dumb, that doesn't mean he would have done something stupid.

TwistedMetal3937d ago

@cleft fuck your constitution. I heard some married couple sighned a prenuptual agreement yet the woman still got all his money when she shouldn't of got none. where was the constitution during slavery huh? I like when people try to bring up this type of stuff like its set in stone. people been doing the opposite of the constitution and laws for centurys son

Seriously who disagreed with mrbearbear? Care to explain why you disagree with him?

Such a terrible shame, how many of you can honestly say that you have never said something stupid, out of context?

Nobody is perfect, and this poor child, I'm sorry he just turned 19, when the average human lifespan is 80 years and supposedly going to be much higher in the next 20years, that is still a child to me. He does not deserve to be locked up in a federal prison for words.

Why not just fine him 500$ or even a 1000$, make him do a 1000hrs of community service, there are other alternatives to this other than JAIL.

I'm sorry but this is total and epic failure of American Justice. Honestly what is the world coming to, when an internet TROLL is thrown in Jail for stupidity.

Gameatholon3937d ago (Edited 3937d ago )

To the person who disagreed with me, I hope you never say or do something stupid in your lifetime. Obviously you are just so perfect, and would never make a mistake.

If you honestly think this 18 year old CHILD should be jailed for 5 years because he made a TERRIBLE JOKE, (yes it was terrible, but it was followed by a J/K and a smiley face), that's just wrong.

Where's your fellow compassion and forgiveness, should he be traumatized over a comment?

He's being subjected to beatings, and most likely soon to be raped over making a comment.\

You sure are vindictive, what if it were your brother, son, friend who said this stupid thing, would you disown, defriend him because he made a terrible decision?

What is wrong with some of you?

He didn't murder, rape, go on a serial killing spree, he didn't fly planes into towers or blow up a marathon race, he made a stupid joke.

tarbis3937d ago

If it's just an opinion then it's free speech. He's stupid to make a disgusting public threat. Whether it be intentional or just a joke. It's still a public threat and it's not funny at all.

Gameatholon3937d ago

If everyone was held accountable for stupid baseless threats, we'd all be in jail.

tarbis3937d ago

Oh? Then that means all threats made by terrorists are jokes and everybody's just losing their damn minds over a joke then.

I have been to prison and alot of the rights that you have are just about taken away from you. Where I was at you couldn't even take your shirt off if you wanted to workout. Anyways, alot of stuff gets posted on Facebook I even saw a grown man having sex with a 5 month old baby smh, the guy doesn't deserve this and because what he's going through is the reason why I don't use Facebook.

What is the world coming too I say he learned his lesson, but because what he going thru he might take out his anger by doing something bad

RedHawkX3937d ago

you dont say stupid stuff on faceboook ever people should know this already because facebook is your real life identity outside of the internet. save you chan site stupidy for anonymous places. but if you go to prison you rights should be taken away because obviously you dont care about the laws and rules anyway so the laws and rules shouldnt care about you.

how can so many people never go to jail in there lifetime yet we got others who go there all the time? why cant you people just be a good freaking citizen? because you exist you make this world a crap place. we could have peace on earth by now but some of you just dont know how to act civil whats wrong with your brains?

kingPoS3937d ago

Part of what allowed this to happen is that many take the daily postings on facebook at face value. When FB profiles started acting as resumes, people began treating the service as if anything posted were the uncontested truth. (scary)

Bad enough that the social site is as ubiquitous as air. I suppose it's a good thing facebook is still optional eh...

cleft53937d ago

Crap like this is why I want nothing to do with things like the Kinect that is constantly recording you in your homes. Just never can be too safe nowadays.
