NeoWin - Before we get into this topic, here's a brief qualifier: Microsoft has not yet given an official comment on what they plan to do for their next Xbox game console. This editorial is not assuming that Microsoft's successor to the Xbox 360 will in fact need an 'always on" Internet connection to play games or run its apps.

I'm sure, after this outcry, Microsoft has probably changed their direction.

They are going to use this as the old bait and switch... Dangle the mysterious "always on" carrot in front of everybody, cause outrage, then announce the console wont follow the "always on" structure, BUT they will implement their own method to block the sale of used games.
Some will accept this as the lesser of two evils and all will be forgiven... Or will it??
Random employee makes comment about 'always on' connection but in no way relates this to the Nextbox. Follows up with 'deal with it!' now everyone is convinced the Nexbox will ABSOLUTELY have always on requeirements.
