9-Year-Old's $20,000 Kickstarter Campaign Draws Scam Accusations

HuffingtonPost - Susan Wilson describes launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise $829 with her 9-year-old daughter Mackenzie as akin to a weekend crafts project.

The girl's teenage brothers were making fun of Mackenzie's goal of creating her own video game at a STEM camp and doubting her abilities, Wilson says. Mom and daughter sought to teach them a lesson by raising money for the camp on the popular crowdfunding site.

It does stink of Scam, i could be wrong though.

DanyBrown4037d ago

there seems to be full disclosure so no it isn't a scam its just not the kind of thing for kickstarter which isnt for charitys

SilentNegotiator4037d ago (Edited 4037d ago )

The project is lead by a very likely multi-millionaire*...I don't care if there was full disclosure; millionaires asking for charity money for themselves is a scam.

*she claims not to be, but even if that's true, she has several millions of dollars worth of investments that she could sell today.

It's like these wealthy beggars; put on some rough clothing and start begging then at the end of the day just switch back to their rich lifestyle again.

Just look at the other kickstarter project she started, most laughable thing i have seen on kickstarter, including build a deathstar for earth's protection. She chose gender issues and used a 9 year old going against her brothers story and bam everyone that goes against her gets painted as a misogynystic troll by the media, who doesnt like doing any research themselves abotu the matter.

I was pretty pissed that the media really started backing the whole deathstar idea. Sure it's a fun concept but it serves no real purpose. Huge waste of money.

sjaakiejj4037d ago

It was stated clearly on the Deathstar Kickstarter that it was a joke though, and that they set the required amount of pledges to the highest that Kickstarter allowed to make it almost impossible to fund.

As for this, I'm not sure what to think of it. I think I agree with the people that say that if you can already afford it, you shouldn't need to take to Kickstarter.

Sure she named the Veronica Mars project as being hosted by wealthy people, but none of them are wealthy enough to have 3 million dollars lying around. The woman running this Kickstarter on the other hand? $800,- is likely pocket change for her.

Gasp! Scams? Kickstarter?! No way, guys!!!!

fatstarr4037d ago (Edited 4037d ago )

what suckers, its a shitty reason to fund anyway. people are such lemmings.

the mom makes millions.

she could have self taught her self all of this and became some prodigy 8 year old.
the resources are all there.
