interesting, great article!

Real reason,

Rendering a game at a resolution as large as 4K is not feasible with the specs provided. 4K rendering is taxing on mid to high end gaming rigs, 1080p is a sweet spot for developers to have a game running at a great framerate while still maintaining a high level of visual fidelity. Also this article has a huge technical issue, Blu-ray storge space has nothing to do with an increase in resolution. Texture, audio, and pre-rendered content are the only things that would warrant an increase in storage medium, increasing the resolution only allows more pixels to be rendered on screen. Video on the other hand is a different story, the PS4 can apparently support 4K video files but no word on if the console supports an actual 4K output or just down samples the video to 1080p.

4k isn't needed atm.

4k would have to become the standard, right now only some TV's can do it and they are very expensive.

PS4 will run 4k video, and yes could run games @4k. But not at the graphics people would want.

1080p@60fps would be nice with some nice aa/af.

But some games are fine @30fps. Uncharted etc.

It'll be nice to see what they do with it.

The real reason is that people are against paying > £300 for the console let alone paying £22,000 for a TV that runs at 4k.

Captain Tuttle4066d ago

He hit on the real reason; content. With no content people aren't likely to shell out for 4k TV's, see 3D adoption. Sony again is trying to force a proprietary "format", they'll fail this time too. It took an Act of Congress to get the TV networks in the US to provide High-Def content, they're not going any farther unless they're force too.

Again? You mean like how they failed with Blu-Ray?

Wait...

ArmrdChaos4065d ago

No...he referred about how they failed with 3D...did not say anything about Blu-ray. I have been saying this from the beginning. It's all about content. It doesn't matter what protocol Netflix uses. If the cable stations are not willing to upgrade their infrastructure again 4K will not go mainstream any time soon. So what would be the point to having a 4K TV other than rebuying a whole new Blu-ray library? Upconverting would pretty much contradict the whole reason for buying 4K in the first place.

OMG... I just wasted 5 min reading nothing useful!

I'll save everyone the trouble of visiting a click bait article.
The article basically says, wait until Sony engineers fix the problem with Youtube.

Agree. Who approved this? This should never have made it through.
