I remember having an argument some time ago about this same type of instance where sites can compromise systems. Can't remember who it was, but this is living proof that being tech savvy still won't protect you from attacks like this. You simply can't tell sometimes if I site is compromised until you visit it. A lot of the times though the servers than the software does link back to end up dying and as a result, can't deliver the intended payload.
I had a sudden request appear while using Facebook recently, to log in with password, provide phone-service carrier name, and text Facebook if I wanted to continue my usage. Only after I was able to continue without completing this process did I realize the message must have been bogus. Facebook hasn’t seen fit to respond to my communication to them about the matter.
