Woah! That's pretty awesome. Glad to see that they didn't build a traditional 8-core system, or else battery life would have just been sucked dry in mere hours.

Sucitta4114d ago

this already happens with my s2 lol, mere hours..

fatstarr4115d ago

hopefully its in the S-IV
it would make it a dayone pickup if the market isnt riddled with good choices.

KingPin4114d ago

i don't get it.

don't get me wrong, its progression and im all for it, but is it really necessary?

i mean mobile phones haven't even been able to use the full capacity of quad-core phones and now they on to 8-core. its a different thing if quad-core phones were "maxed out" and much more processing power was needed but it really isn't the case.

Did you read the story, though?

KingPin4114d ago

yes i did. :/

and it states that it will switch between the two cores depending on usage.

but like i said, there hasn't been any app(s) thats been able to max out a single quad-core processor. so why the need for a more powerful one when it will be using the less powerful one 90% of the time.

From the article:

The new chip is comprised of two separate clusters of quad cores, one being an ARM Cortex-A15 and the other a Cortex-A7. Rather than simply having 8 cores in total, the 2 clusters are managed via ARM’s big.LITTLE technology which allows for the processor to switch between the more or less powerful clusters depending on the type of usage.

This is good news for those who really want the most out of their battery life since it can revert to the less powerful of the 2 clusters in idle or low-performance needs.

Samsung promises a 70% savings in power consumption versus the Exynos 5 Dual, but still boasts top class performance because of the 4 Cortex-A15 cores. They also mentioned that it can deliver twice the 3D performance as compared to the Exynos 4 Quad. We’re guessing the S IV will be the first to carry this chip.

I'd be surprised if this was in the S4. Still, crazier things have happened. Btw, King Pin has a great point.

Even if an app couldmax out the cores, wouldn't that mean shorter battery life in the end?

krisq4114d ago

Pretty sure that Octo in S4 is a given. And watch modders getting access to all 8 cores at the same time.

arjman4114d ago

I don't think they'll put it in the S4, surely the size requirements will be more suitable for tablets? Also damnit I just got a nexus 10 with an exynos 5 dual and now they're bringing out this beauty.
