Seven Milky Way worlds could harbour life, say astronomers (after just a year of hunting)

Dailymail: Seven planets in the Milky Way outside our solar system could potentially harbour life, researchers from an ambitious project to catalogue all habitable worlds have announced.

Maybe those worlds are not 'worlds' but eggs harbouring life.. :))

Earth is a dead decaying egg that is being fed on by microorganisms (from scale of egg planet)., and harbouring fungal growth (trees).

Only if it's clean :)))

astronomers are a bunch of dumb guys. what makes them think that to have life in the entire universe you need earthly conditions or water/sunlight etc. maybe life on other planets evolved to the point where they can flourish in other climates where water is not necessary.

maybe other life needs 80C to grow whereas in temperatures like that we would die. so they don't go looking on those planets.

They already know that life can thrive in hostile environments especially bacteria. They look for worlds similar to ours because those are the worlds that humans would be able to inhabit. We can't stay on this planet forever, one day it will die and we'll need somewhere else to live. Best to start looking now then to leave it last minute.

you do realize that looking for a planet much like ours is galaxies away. it would take centuries to get to by means of normal spaceship. its like people will live their entire lives on a spaceship and not get to where they going. for example if you were to board this ship, your great grandchildren might be the ones to reach the new planet.

and with 2012 coming up soon our time has run out :p <just jokes>

they should start working on a hyper-drive instead. that way they can scan galaxies quicker and when they do find a planet that can sustain our life, load up and ship out.

laid2rest4142d ago

Yeah i do realise that. But if that is what needs to be done then it has to be done. Its obviously going to take a very long time to travel to these planets. But just maybe by the time we need to leave Earth the human race will have developed enough technology so that they will have spaceships that are able to sustain life for long periods. Another 100-200 years and we'll have to leave.

ReconHope4142d ago

Too bad we will never be able to travel to one of those places in our lifetimes.

Speed-Racer4142d ago

The only way I can ever see that happening in this century is if scientists figure out a way to bend space and time. Traveling in a straight line is simply out of the question due to the physical limitations and traveling through a black hole would mean spaghettification and instant death. Ah well.

chukamachine4142d ago

Strangely enough.

Star trek is about right, you would have to live on said ship. Massive crews.

I'd still love Mankind to one day step on the moon's surface for the first time.

Kepler 22-b looks like a strong candidate for "DUH there is life out there".
