Or just download LibreOffice for normal not-metro-garbage Windows. Much better software, works with .doc, .docx, and does so much more.

Gotta love the Win8 thing though. They will never allow competing open source (AKA better) software on the market. Shame. Oh well, good thing I'll never be fooled in to that crap.

Libre is slow as hell and the UI is just terribly dated.

3GenGames4146d ago

You mean a usable UI that has been the standard of every office program the last decade? Right.

And slow? Maybe your computer is just a bug ridden POS. It's quick in Win7, XP, AND Linux Mint for me!

You're just spreading lies. Download and judge for yourself guys, this is just a person that doesn't like BETTER, FREE, FASTER, and OPEN software.

I'm sure Microsoft does not pay SynGamer to like their products. LibreOffice can best be described as "almost junk", just like OpenOffice, IBM Lotus Symphony is perhaps better. In fact, Microsoft Office 2013 reminds be of LibreOffice because of its bad UI and bugs, until the final version is launched, I will rate it as "less than junk".

And I am a supporter of OpenSource software.

Thank you blogger87. No, I don't get paid to "spread "lies"". I have Office 2010 because I got it cheap through my work. It's faster, has more options, and is more user-friendly than LibreOffice. I've tried LO, gave it a fair chance (ran it for roughly 1 month), and even with it being free, I still purchased Office 2010 (heavily discounted) because it's simply better.

"You mean a usable UI that has been the standard of every office program the last decade? Right."

Yes, the same, laggy, non-userfriendly UI that has been used for over a decade and REALLY needs to update with the times. The 2013 UI looks terrible, but then, I'm not a big fan of Metro. That said, I used Windows 8 RP and enjoyed it (when I went straight to Desktop, not Metro). And it was faster than Windows 7 on just about ever test. Though it should be noted that by "faster" we're talking merely 1-2 seconds in most cases.

But I digress. If you enjoy LibreOffice, that is fine. It's free, and a great alternative for people who cannot, or choose not to pay for Office.

I can run it fine on a netbook for god's sake... What PC do you have? A Pentium III with 256MB of Ram? XD

Many of my teachers use OpenOffice and I have never heard any complaints from them. In fact, they love it. I think you guys have the XBL Disease; you think you have a better product just because you're paying for it.

I'm a PS3 guy actually, got rid of my 306 about 2 years ago. I've tried Libre on a C2D with 2GB of RAM and it's not..."slow", I may have used the wrong description. The product overall feels "clunky". That may be a better way to describe it. Again, and as always, "to each their own".

People who moan about windows 8 have never used it, because if you had. You would know it works very well. Nice UI and if you don't want to be on the ui screen, just click desktop.

done.

I've been using it since developer's preview and I hate it. Metro is as easy to break as a Linux distro with a single bad code or incompatible applications.
