This will do the opposite. google subsidizes this phone at about cost. They can afford to make no money because they will gain it back in advertising.

Now how does a manufacturer compete with that? Samsung builds the GS3 $400+ each, then turns around and sells it to a carrier for 500-600.

I agree. Lowering the price on mobile phones might actually be more profittable to the company. Just look at free-to-play gaming
