Remember when Intel recalled its 6-Series chipset because of a SATA controller bug? That left OEMs with their pants down. It was around that same time that AVADirect began accepting pre-orders for Clevo's P270WM notebook, which would have been the world's first X79-based gaming laptop. Well, things happened -- "complications," AVADirect says -- and Clevo scrapped the design, went back to the drawing board, and built the P570WM. After taking a mulligan, Clevo is ready to let gamers experience the first true X79 desktop replacement, and once again, AVADirect is front in line.

Looking to give the category a nudge, Ohio-based boutique builder AVADirect today announced a pair of desktops designed in collaboration with Sixense for the latter's Stem System.
Maximum PC: AVADirect, the boutique system builder based in Ohio, is now offering Supermicro FatTwin 4U server solutions with up to Intel Octa-Xeon processing and dedicated GPU options. The FatTwin uses a four-blade form factor that can be stuffed with high-end hardware, depending on what you're trying to accomplish. According to AVADirect, the FatTwin is adept at a number of different tasks, including complex calculations, video rendering, 3D modeling, simulation, multi-virtual machine environments, hosting, and more.
Maximum PC: If you were worried that Nvidia's newly announced graphics cards would amount to a paper launch, don't be. Boutique system builders have already armed themselves with the new GPUs -- GeForce GTX 750, GeForce GTX 750 Ti, and GeForce GTX Titan Black -- and are chomping (or "champing," if you prefer) at the bit to build your next gaming PC using Nvidia's newest hardware.
