This is really cool. Now to work on jet planes and corporations.

if everything could get on this level of cooperation and planning maybe the earth stands a chance... but as usual there will always be greedy people that will ruin it and dis obey rules/laws

but the effects on shipping speed and price would definitely show its place.

I can see it now Ship via eco shipping to save the earth... the marketing has potential

Question is - how are you going to monitor these speeds? Any on-board instruments will be easy to cheat, so the only other options are satellite and sea police - neither of which is completely feasible.

How are they not feasible? It's not like you're gonna get every speeding car either, but once you get one you give him a ticket he won't forget. And the revenue from all of this could be used on environmental research (I wish the world were that great). But: I'm sure this will be difficult to pursue by national and international laws. Damn you, oceans.

That's why they're called "Ocean's 11" you know. Because you can't get them. And you can't get the oceans. Because they'll get you. Oh, Ocean's gonna get you with a Kodak disc. Do you remember that commercial? Me neither. I saw it on Family Guy. Funny show. Not as good as South Park though. Or at least so I think, but nevermind all that, that was just all very stream of consciousnessy. (Is that a word?)
My points was this: International law is one son of a

I was thinking exactly the same thing! Surely we want to increase speed (and green technology) anyway in the long run?

We either slow down everything as a global society or we change the nature of our economies to reflect Co2 pollution (put a price on pollution) and use the tax revenue generated by a carbon tax to aggressively fund science.

We're only going to regress if we overcome problems by taking a step back rather than a step forward.

Yes and we can increase shipping times and drive costs even higher! All to reduce emissions by .00000001% F*ING GENIUS!
